If you’re lucky enough to be backpacking in freshly fallen snow you can have hot apple cobbler and vanilla ice cream wherever your feet have taken you. Well, technically it’s vanilla snow cream but beggars can’t be choosers, right? Either way, this is quite a luxury after a long day hiking. If you don’t have freshly fallen snow, drink the ingredients as vanilla milk along with your apple pie and it’s still a great treat.

- 1/2 cup dry whole milk powder
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla beans from inside of vanilla pod
- 1/2 cup water
Add all ingredients to your lightweight container of choice. At your campsite, after shaking bag to make sure it is well blended, split the mix between two cups. Add about a 1/4 cup of water to each cup and mix until everything is dissolved. Either add more water to enjoy as vanilla milk or add freshly fallen snow and mix. Enjoy with warm apple pie.
